Can a Healthy Diet Help the Environment?

With all the positive attention given to our hopefully greener future, we thought it would be interesting to tackle this question: Can having a healthy diet help the environment?

The answer: A resounding Yes!

There are many ways in which eating healthy can help make our world a greener place. Here’s our small list. Feel free to add your own comments below.

* Buy fruits and vegetables from local farmers and cut down on processed food. This cuts down on the extra energy costs associated with the production and transportation of processed foods.

* Increase your consumption of organic dairy products and other foods to cut down on harmful growth hormones and antibiotics.

* Eat species of fish that aren’t overfished and are also lowest in mercury and other toxins. See: http://www.thegreenguide.com/doc/115/nofish for the complete guide.

* Instead of buying a new bottle of water every day, buy a reusable water container that is BPA-free certified.

When using more natural foods as fruits and vegtables the by products make good compost and therefore natural fertilizers.

Got something to say?
