Diet by Ditching the Diet Drinks?

More and more research cropping up on diet websites and blogs indicate that diet soft drinks don’t help you lose weight. To the contrary, they can actually make you gain weight.

Here’s why: the “diet drinks” are often completely devoid of calories, so while you’re tasting that fantastic mix of bubbly water, artificial flavoring and aspartame, sucralose or whatever else is in there, your body expects to be nourished by it. These powerful artificial sweeteners set your body up to think it’s consuming something good for you, and then when it figures out that you were just fooling it, you end up becoming even more hungry.

It’s a vicious cycle, but it can be broken. Try swapping out your soft drink for water first. If you just can’t stand the bland taste of regular old water, toss a few chunks of lemon, orange or cucumber in to give it some flavor. Your taste buds will adjust, and your appetite will, too. Cheers!
