Giving Up Carbs

Hi Glenny’s,

I really want to give up dry carbs, but like everyone else, I love them. Without dry carbs like paste, I never really feel full! I just wanted to ask fellow Glenny’s fans about their experiences when they gave up dry carbs. How did you do it? How did you keep yourself feeling full? Thanks.
Carol

For me, giving up carbs, is the fastest way to lose weight. And I find proteins fill me up more than starches. So eating a salad packed with protein (like lean meats) is more filling than eating a sandwich. Good luck!

In the morning I eat: 1 cup non-fat plain yogurt with berries with walnuts broken up into the mix, 2 slices of Aunt Hatties 9-grain bread with Brummel and Brown margarine. At mid morning I become hungry so I have one WHOLE bag of Soy Crisps that fills me up until lunch. Lunch is a large salad with lean meat just like dri said with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Mid afternoon I have 1/2 bag of Soy Crisps. Dinner is meat and vegetables with more of Aunt Hatties. I eat this way because I am diabetic and want to keep from gaining weight. I don’t know if this helps at all but I found that the Soy Crisps have been a marvel for me.

I eat a certain amount of carbs through out the day since I found out I was pre-diabetic. I saw a nutrtionist and she gave me all the info I needed to eat carbs correctly. I’ve lost a ton of weight and I still eat healthy. I did 2 months of no carbs to relieve my liver and pancreas of carbs, now I am introducing carbs a little at a time so my body doesn’t over produce insulin. It’s a lot like the gestgational diabetic diet when you are pregnant. It’s how you can control diabetes with out being on medications. Cutting out carbs completely just jump starts your weight loss, but should never be taken out completely for long periods of time. She has a book coming out in January, 2009 about it.

I too find cutting carbs out a great way to quickly drop a few pounds. After the first day or two, the craving for starchy carbs diminishes significantly for me. I fill in my craving for crunchy snacks with cut up peppers, jicama, carrots, etc. Apples are a favorite too.
Being an athlete, I need a certain amount of healthy carbs, but try to eat them immediately following a vigorous workout, when my metabolizm is revved up. I choose things like oatmeal, high fiber breads & tortillas, and , of course, Glenny’s soy crisps!

I just say go cold turkey for a week or two after a few days the craving realy isn’t there if your strong willed you wont touch them. I am a professional cyclist and can gaurantee you that what Elle said is not the best of advice, carbs are necessary for any perfomance athlete and the consumption of these healthy and valuable carbs should always be prior to the workout/race/training, whatever. Your muscles feed of the carbs as energy without carbs they canablozie theirseves. What you need after the workout you need protein to repair muscle which has been consumed. For a carb free breakfast I have 1/2 cup of eggwhites 60-70 calories, chopped upped veggies ie onions peppers tomatoes, which accumulate to a negligible amount of calories but give great texture and taste with fiber and other good veggy qualities. Then i dice up 3 slices of turkey bacon Oscar Meyer I think) 65 calories for the 3. and put it all in a teflon pan and make myself an omlette no oil is necessary with teflon maybe some fat free cal free pam. Then I add a half cup to whatever no carb 100-120 calorie yougurt that tastes goos is on sale. And enjoy for an added kick I generously pour Jabanero hotsauce or low sodium no calorie soy sauce. to the ommlete which if made right is airy and filling. There you go a delicious, nutritous, protein packed, filling breakfast .

hey, I too am low carbing it…love the bbq and cheddar soy chips, 1/2 a bag is only 9 grams of carb and I have with a low carb wrap stuffed with cheese, mayo, lettuce, and turkey…total carb for this meal is only 12 grams, the wraps have only 3 grams of carbs. Try 16oz of cream cheese, 1 egg and about 9 packs of Splenda and back in a cup cake pan, this makes about 6 individual cheese cakes, bake for about 20 mins or until brown….yummmy…only about 1.6 grams of carbs, the entire 16oz cream cheese has a total of 8 grams, and yes I have eaten all 6 in one sitting…I have be a low carber for about 3 months and I have lost 22 pounds….

For me, as I ajusted my diet. I took it one step at a time. First I focused on cutting out junk food. Not having any in my home. Having 5 nutritiously balanced meals a day. And exercise that suited my liking, switching it around when i got board. …THEN, I was intoduced to the power protein diet. My brother has used and done a lot of research into it. He guided me into it. At first I was like no, nah, not for me, lol. Then he just kept telling me info. on it, the benefits, so on. And I started it…., The first 2 days were the hardest, using supplements and protein shakes, writing what I eat down and consistent exercise has helped me to lose 18 pnds in 4 weeks! I have consulted my doctor about it also. So keeping a healthy lifestyle and working toward my goals of good health and fitness and all it has to offer keeps me on track with the diet. I say if a person thinks that all they have to lose ,is weight tehn it is a good start of having the right mind set for the life change of eating properly!!! Strong Will, information, good supports, as in friends, family, and more will! Good Luck!!

Got something to say?
