Holiday Hangover?

Diana asks:
I know I shouldn’t have more than one glass of wine a day, but alcohol is often a part of holiday festivities, and sometimes it’s hard not to have a few drinks. Any tips on how to get over a potential hangover? Thanks.

Very pertinent (and honest) question. Best tip, I think is: Drink lots of fluids! Alcohol saps your body of fluids — so you need to replenish to hydrate your body sufficiently. Water is the obvious choice, but vegetable-juice cocktail, clear broth, and even sugar-free soda can help you rehydrate.

I read somewhere that eggs are a great choice of food to help one recover from a hangover. I think it had something to do with the B vitamins they contains. I’d research it and see. Bc if that is the case, maybe a B vitamin complex (in pill form) would help. Also coconut water is a great beverage to drink bc it’s natutally isotonic meaning is has almost the same electolyte content that our body does!

My Mother told me that the best cure for a hangover is to heat up a can of saurkraut and get some down, including the juice. It can really make you gag, especially if you are really hung over, but if you get it down and keep it down, it really works! I have tried it when feeling sick from sweet drinks (like rum and coke or whiskey sour punch) and it worked like a miracle. I am not sure why, though- maybe the vinegar? Who knows- but I keep cans of saurkraut in my pantry just in case…

Got something to say?
