How Do I Stop Scale Obsession?
Susan asks:
I weigh myself every day and worry about even the slightest change in my weight. I really get stressed out by the scale. How can I stop the obsession?

Got something to say?

I’ve had the same problem in the past, but obsessing over the scale and weighing yourself every day can actually be counterproductive. You weight may change from day to day for many reasons and so the scale can cause daily ups and downs, making the variations misleading. The best thing, I’ve found, is to just weigh yourself only once each week and on the same scale every time.
Remember, weight loss takes time, so patience is required. Definitely no need to obsess and weigh yourself every day. Good luck!
Susan, I also weigh myself every day, and I think it is a good thing! It is true that several factors play into weight variances from day to day, but at least it gives you a sense of how much to cut back on your calories or increase activity levels on a daily basis! It can be interpreted as an obsession, but it’s better than falling into depression one week later, when you realize you have packed on 5 extra pounds! I’m with you girlfriend!
I HAVE to weigh myself every morning to make sure I’m doing the right thing – right calories, drinking enough water. If it shows an increase, I adjust my eating, etc., for the day. I’ve just started walking, too, so will be watching the scales to see if that is helping. Try weighing everyday for a while and then don’t weigh everyday for a while. See which makes you feel better.
Watching the scale can be addictive. The only way to stop may be to get rid of the scale. Instead , use a tape measure. Measure your hips to the nearest half inch. You won’t see much change unless you are gaining or losing fat.
