What are Super Foods?

Florence asks:
I’ve heard many nutritionists and experts recommend eating more Super Foods. Can someone explain what a Super Food is and give me some examples? What is your favorite Super Food? Thanks.

I think that what experts are talking about when they refer to Super Foods are foods that inherently contain antioxidants and other disease-fighting nutrients. For a variety of reasons, it is much better to get the nutrients from the food itself, rather than from some pill.

Two popular SuperFoods are: Blueberries and Pomegranates.

A 2005 University of Illinois study found that a number of compounds in blueberries, including pigment-producing anthocyanins, have powerful cancer-preventive powers. Other berries contain similar antioxidants in smaller quantities.

Pomegranates are high in flavonoids, antioxidants that are also found in red wine. Recent studies also show that pomegranate juice may also help prevent heart disease.

There are 23 items considered ‘superfoods’. They are listed and described in detail in a book called SUPERFOODS Rx.

I have been eating according to the superfoods recommendations for nearly a year. It has changed my life. I am now off several prescription meds for my heart, blood pressure and a host of other ailments. They are super indeed!

Trying to find out if the peanut butter in glenny’s brown rice marshmallow treats is ok to eat? In all your products?

I really love them as i am gluten-free customer.

Got something to say?
